It’s been over a month since we started the idea of posting English vocabulary from the play Déjà Vu on our Facebook page. If you love theatre and you want to learn or improve English, here is your chance! Consider this, if you learn all the words we have listed on our page you will be more than ready to watch Déjà Vu, an original play, completely in English when the Fringe kicks off on the 1st of June!

Extra audition for Déjà Vu

*Due to a high level of interest in the play we have decided to hold an extra audition on Sunday the 20th of November from 16:00 to 19:00.*

“Déjà Vu” will be performed at the Prague Fringe Festival next June, and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2012. Edinburgh is the largest arts festival in the world and each year attracts thousands of agents, producers, and promoters. It’s now or never! Currently we are looking for one actor and one actress both in their 20s/30s.

Here is the summary:
George loves Anne. Anne loves George. But Anne is having an affair with Fred. Why? It has something to do with Spain, but when they talk about it the lights turn off, and they forget everything, only to begin again on a new tangent of fate. Time for them is a ball of string and they are caught in a very tangled knot!

The performance is presented by Wild Mint Productions, and supported by CANZA, the Czech Australian New Zealand Association. We are also currently negotiating sponsorship with several companies around the city.

When: Sunday 20th November 16:00 to 19:00

Where: Prague Playhouse Acting Studio Františka Krížka 1 Praha 7, Holešovice

We are also seeking other creative professionals who are interested in collaboration. This includes stage management, lighting, sound, music, directing, promotion, and design. If interested send us an email!

The Actor’s Temple

Last week I went to The Actor’s Temple in London, the top Meisner technique school in Europe and I was really impressed with what I saw. The students are of a high calibre, and the teachers really know what they are doing. I have been studying this techinque at the Prague Playhouse for nearly 2 years now and so I felt that it was time to make the trip to London and see what all the fuss was really about. The Meisner techinque sometimes gets a bad wrap because it is seen by some to be unncessarily emotional and over the top. But at The Actor’s Temple I saw how this technique really does make great actors. Indeed, the technique was created by Sanford Meisner who trained some of the best American actors, including James Dean.

At the Actor’s Temple, in a class with my teacher, Ron, the students were asked to check in with themselves. We discussed how we were feeling, and then there was no need for elaboration. Ron asked for the first two students to jump up in front and begin the class. What I love about The Actor’s Temple was that there is no mucking around. After all, acting is doing. So it makes sense to get stuck into the business of doing straight away. To be honest, I was intimated to start with, seeing the standard of the other actors. I also felt like I had dived in at the deep end. I wanted to be an ambassador for the Prague Playhouse Acting Studio. So when I first got up in front of the class and found myself with a complete stranger crying uncontrollably in my shoulder I felt eager to prove myself. But I was very blocked. It was just too much for me to handle. However, through the course of the class I got better and better. And in the end, I was not intimidated anymore and I felt like I was really being open.

It occurred to me, that to make a quantum leap, you need to first see what you are aiming for. Sometimes it pays to jump in at the deep end. Then you either sink or swim. You rise or you fall. Anything worth achieving is worth taking a risk for!

Auditions for Déjà Vu

Auditions for Déjà Vu will be held on Tuesday 25th October 16:00-18:00, and Thursday 27th October 21:00-23:00 at the Prague Playhouse Acting Studio, Františka Krížka 1, Praha 7. Déjà Vu is an original play, written by Stuart Mentha, to be performed at the Prague and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals 2012. I’m looking for one actor & one actress, in their 20s/30s. Everyone is welcome to audition!

Wild plots are worth a mint!

Wild mints are worth a plot, and we are just the group to plant them! This is what Wild Mint Productions is all about, creating original productions that are wild and different, but also of mint quality and in mint condition. Wild Mint Productions is the place where ideas, scripts, plays, and performances are minted – like coins are made in a factory, our performances start with a base material, something that doesn’t always make sense, but is fostered and grown into something that becomes like a mint of it’s own – performances of lasting value that appeal to native-English speakers and non-native English speakers alike. Wild Mint Productions is based in Prague but I plan for this company to be a product of the world. First of all we intend to perform Deja Vu at the Prague Fringe Festival 2012 and then onto the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

So what is Deja Vu? So what is Deja Vu? Deja Vu, as you are probably already aware, Deja Vu is the odd feeling that you have seen something before. It literally means: already seen, although nowadays it is commonly taken to mean “already visited”. Scientists can’t agree on what exactly triggers deja vu, although they do have some ideas, mainly that it is the result of miscommunication between the left and right hemispheres of the brain, and more spiritually minded people believe that it is the result of living previous lives, and scientists meanwhile have their own ideas that deja vu is the result of a miscommunication between the left and right hemispheres of the brain. Given the ambiguity of the concept of deja vu, and the fact that the nature of time and space itself is so complexing, not to mention perplexing, the concept of deja vu is an enticing concept to get your head around, especially seeing as the nature of the universe will probably never be completely solved means that the concept of deja vu will probably never be solved let alone if you are trying to understand it because you would first need to understand the nature of the universe itself. Probably.

Is time a long straight line heading into oblivion without rhyme or reason, or is time a giant ball of string tangled and knotted, with all the different strands of possibility intersecting like a giant ball of string? Sometimes in life we find ourselves in situations where one single moment can decide an entire lifetime of fate, but what if these moments were all happening at the same time – what if fate is that giant ball of string? Deja Vu, the play, will solve all your questions. Well, some of them anyway.

On this website you will find information about the new upcoming play titled Deja Vu which will be entered into the Prague and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals 2012. I am really excited about creating this group and about the upcoming show. Things are moving along quite nicely!
